Individuals taking a risk and putting it all on the line to start a business have always made up the engine of the American economy that we call free enterprise.

I applaud Glenn Beck his show in which he brought together entrepreneurs and small business owners who follow their dreams in pursuit of the American dream. Whether you agree with Beck’s politics or not, who wouldn’t support the idea that free enterprise and America’s entrepreneurs are the key to moving our economy forward?

One thing I got out of my appearance on Glenn Beck’s show last week is the importance of having a strong work ethic and drive if you’re going to make it on your own.   When’s the last time we spoke about work ethic in America? America has always been known for having the hardest working people in the world – we really need to go back to emphasizing that’s what it will take to be great again.  My family, like millions of immigrants, came to America with the idea that all things are possible here for those willing to work hard and take risks. There are a lot of people out of work right now and many more who are making less money or getting less hours than they used to.  That means it is an opportunity for people who maybe always wanted to take a chance and do something on their own.  We need to encourage that strength of character and fortitude that makes someone decide to go in business for themselves.   America has always provided a path to prosperity, so we need to make sure that we remain a place where hard work and determination is rewarded.  We need to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit every day.

Another thing that we need to remember is what drives us as business owners. Glenn Beck and the entrepreneurs on the show discussed our passion to make a great product or provide a great service.  Not one single business owner on the show said it was about being rich.  We all have a special relationship with our clients and customers, and when we focus on that, the success will follow.

I thank Glenn Beck for giving entrepreneurs a forum to speak on our ideals of what makes America the land of opportunity.
